For those of you who visit Downtown Long Beach which includes the East Village stretching from Long Beach Boulevard to Alamitos Avenue, you may have wondered to yourself why our great city would let the roads and curbs in this area deteoriate so badly.  Well this is all about to change.

Starting yesterday May 18th until the end of July of this year, a major series of improvements for 1st Street from Alamitos Avenue to Long Beach Boulevard has begun.

According to the Downtown Long Beach Associates, “The project will involve the installation of storm drain laterals, catch basin relocations, upgraded street lighting, bulb-outs, planting of parkway trees, street repairs, removal and replacement of damaged existing concrete improvements, and other appurtenant work”

David White, the Redevelopment Project Officer for the East Village states: “The new street lights and other improvements are exciting changes that will help to bring an increased feeling of safety and rejuvenation to an important part of the downtown.”
