New Bike Routes Coming Soon to Long Beach
Posted on 27 May 2009 by Shout Eric
Long Beach has secured over $10 million federal, state, and regional dollars to improve the city’s biking infrastruture. Already, over 400 new bike racks have been installed across the city. The Long Beach Bike Station located at 150 Broadway downtown was first built in 1996 and offers services where residents and visitors can rent, repair, and park their bicycles for the day.
Soon we will see new pilot bike projects installed across the city. There will be one pilot project on Broadway and Third between Golden Avenue and Alamitos Avenue and another on Vista Avenue extending from Nieto to Temple.
Bicycling is a great way to see the town in a new light, shed some extra pounds, become more healthy, and help create a cleaner environment by reducing the carbon footprint of your car.
Starting June 5th and continuing through July 3rd and August 7th, the city has started a program called “Car Free Fridays” which is designed to encourage residents to commute to work locally by bicycle. Restaurants in Downtown will offer discounts to cyclists.
