Gavin Newsom Receives Endorsement from former President Bill Clinton

Posted on 15 September 2009 by Shout Melissa

In a story featured on ABC news today, it was announced that former President Bill Clinton has formally endorsed Gavin Newsom for Governor of California.   The endorsement of Newsom over former California Governor and current State Attorney General Jerry Brown is being viewed by many as a “game changer”.    (Clinton beat out Jerry Brown by 7 percent in the 1992 California primaries for the Presidential nomination)

The endorsement marks the first time a former President has officially endorsed a  candidate in a primary for statewide office in California.   Just as Newsom was a strong supporter of both Bill and Hillary’s campaigns, Clinton has also supported Newsom in the past, even speaking speaks at a San Francisco mayoral campaign rally in 2003.

Clinton will be hitting the campaign trail with Newsom including a Southern California stop next month which is expected to include an event in predominantly Latino East Los Angeles as well as a high-dollar fundraiser.
