One of the most profound aspects of the theatre is its ability to combine multiple realities of the human experience through storytelling in order to widen one’s consciousness. Terrence McNally combines the journey of Jesus Christ and his Apostles with the reality of being a gay man in mid-20th century Corpus Christi, Texas. By doing so, McNally creates a groundbreaking experience with this age-old story that humanizes the Christian gospels, emphasizes the idea that “all men are divine”, and asks us to look inside ourselves and REALLY ask, “Am I contributing good to the society in which I operate?”

“We are thrilled to join 120 cities around the world in staging this sequel on the 11th anniversary of Shepard’s murder,” says Hywel Sims, Executive Director of the Chorus. “The Santa Monica production will stand apart because we will blend music with the new play.”

The Laramie Project, Ten Years Later. . .an Epilogue, written by Moises Kaufman’s Tectonic Theater Company, takes the audience back to Laramie, Wyoming a decade after Matthew Shepard’s murder. Interviewers spoke with community members to measure the cultural impact of the murder and examine the changes that occurred as a result of the tragic and politicized event.

Music will include selections by Rufus Wainwright, the Dixie Chicks, Rodgers and Hammerstein, Bob Dylan, and Sons of the Pioneers. Recording artist Randi Driscoll will also perform live.

Proceeds from the evening will benefit GMCLA’s AMP (A-LIVE Music Project), a new high school music education program that also focuses on combating bullying and violence against LGBT students.
