CARE to Dine is a one day event being held on Thursday August 12, 2010.  During this day numerous participating restaurants and cafes in the Greater Long Beach area will donate 20% of their breakfast, lunch, and dinner proceeds to the C.A.R.E. Program.  When dinning out on that evening, please do not forget to mention to your restaurant hosts that you are dinning out for “CARE to Dine”.

Proceeds from the event will benefit St. Mary Medical Center’s C.A.R.E Program which provides an array of programs and services for those infected and affected by HIV/AIDS, from Medical and Dental Services to Case Management.  The C.A.R.E program makes high quality health and social services available to HIV/AIDS infected and affected individuals and families in a manner that is professional, compassionate, and recognizes the dignity and autonomy of each individual.

The star-studded evening includes dinner, a show and a large silent auction featuring incredible travel and entertainment packages and much more. Known for years as L.A.’s premiere event for lesbians, bisexual women and their supporters, the annual event reached new heights last year under the direction of Perry and Bolthouse, both of whom took on the role of event co-chairs alongside veteran co-chairs and Center board members Kelly Lynch and Annie Goto. This year, Shannon Del joins as a co-chair.

Perry — writer and producer for artists such as Christina Aguilera, Pink, Gwen Stefani and Alicia Keys as well as CEO of record label Custard Records (James Blunt, Reni Lane, Little Fish, Crash Kings, Bigelf) — first became involved with the Center in 2006, when she performed at Women’s Night (the previous incarnation of “An Evening with Women”) and brought special guests Courtney Love and Billy Corgan to perform with her. In 2008, Perry was recognized with the “Creative Integrity Award” at the event.

“The Center is such an important part of our community and I am drawn to their amazing work,” Perry says. “We are all incredibly dedicated to making this event the best yet, and I’m excited about the support from the entertainment industry whose contributions will help raise necessary funds to directly benefit the Center and their programs.”

“An Evening with Women” benefits the Center’s services for women — including legal assistance, domestic violence services and cultural arts programs — but the night is also an opportunity to recognize lesbians and bisexual women who make a difference in the community through the Center’s community awards.

“I think of this incredible night as a fun and inspiring celebration of women as artists, creators, leaders and innovators,” Goto says. “Many grassroots activists and risk-takers go unnoticed — and this musical night is a chance to sing their praises.”

Set in Los Angeles in 1962, A Single Man is the story of George Falconer, a British college professor (Colin Firth) who is struggling to find meaning in his life after the death of his long-time partner, Jim (Matthew Goode). We follow George through a single day, where a series of encounters, ultimately leads him to decide if there is a meaning to life after Jim. George is consoled by his closest friend, Charley (Julianne Moore), a 48-year-old beauty, and is stalked by one of his students, Kenny (Nicholas Hoult).

Local bands Bethpage Black and Eugene & The 1914 come together for “Black Thursday,” a benefit concert to support Be The Cause on Dec. 10 at the Art Theatre. Tickets are $10 and include a free copy of Bethpage Black’s debut record–what’s better than that?
